E-Reader Comparison: iPad 3 vs Kindle Fire

Kindle Fire by Amazon iPad 3 by Apple

With the many choices of tablets on the market, it can be difficult to choose one. While each one has its own specific set of great features, two devices in particular are great for e-reading. These are the iPad 3 and the Kindle Fire. These devices each offer a variety of features that are unique to one another. It is helpful to know about these details when you are in the market for a good quality e-reader.

The Differences

One markedly very obvious difference between the two tablets is that the new iPad is much more expensive. However, it consists of many more great features that the Kindle Fire is lacking, including the Retina display, 4G LTE connectivity and its 5-megapixel camera. With that being said, thanks to the improved graphics ability of the iPad 3, which sports an amazing 2048 by 1536 pixel screen resolution, reading e-books and browsing magazines is a whole new visual experience. The screen also measures in at 9.7 inches, which is larger than the Kindle Fire’s seven-inch screen. All content on the screen is considerably crisper and sharper on the iPad, which can be a huge deciding factor in which e-reader is preferable to the user.

New iPad 3

As the new iPad includes a camera, it is possible to take snapshots of the screen when you are reading an e-book. The Kindle Fire completely lacks a camera, so this is not possible on that device. The iPad 3 also has more memory, which means you can store a greater amount of e-books and magazines to it.

Which One Works Best for Reading?

The Kindle Fire is a decent tablet for e-reading and is definitely more compact and portable than the larger iPad 3. Due to its smaller size, it is somewhat easier to use for reading for long periods of time. It also has the advantage of a folder system utilized by Android that makes it easier to locate exactly what e-book you want to read, which the new iPad does not. Although the Kindle Fire’s battery only lasts between seven to eight hours versus the iPad’s 10, it does not get hot like the Apple tablet after several hours of usage.

All in all, iPad 3 and Kindle Fire are both quality tech devices that are good for e-reading. Obviously, the iPad boasts a slight edge as it has considerably better graphics and a larger screen, which would be preferable to individuals who have vision problems. In the long run, however, determining which tablet is better for you is a personal choice and additional features should be considered as well.
